The mirror glass specified for our buildings is believed to pose a lower risk to birds than standard glazing, due to its ultraviolet (UV) reflective properties. Many bird species can see UV light, unlike humans. This makes UV-reflective surfaces more visible and distinguishable to birds, helping them recognise the glass as a barrier.
This approach aligns with broader industry guidance that highlights UV-reflective and patterned surfaces as effective mitigation strategies. The design has been developed with environmental integration in mind, including careful consideration of site layout to minimise reflective hazards and support natural movement patterns. Additional measures such as UV surface treatments and semi-visible manifestations will be used where appropriate to further reduce risk.
